I was interested in the relationship between ancient Rome and the more recognizable image of the city, between its overwhelming past and a symbol that continues to appear even when you are not looking for it directly. The dome of St. Peter’s is one of the most famous images in the world, but here it appears distant, calm, almost silent.

It is a very recognizable image, but shifted into the background. St. Peter’s does not dominate the scene frontally. It remains there, like a constant presence within the Roman landscape.
