Via dei Servi is one of my favourite streets in Florence.
I am interested in it because it connects two essential places in the city. Starting from Piazza Santissima Annunziata, you can walk all along Via dei Servi with Brunelleschi’s dome always in front of you. It was the first time I drew the dome, but I did not want to make it too prominent. In Florence, it is a constant presence: it is there even when you are not looking for it, and precisely because of that, it did not need to be emphasized.
Here too, the city is not represented as a still image, but as a place people move through. I wanted to show an everyday Florence, made of people walking, shopping, stopping for a moment, or simply passing from one street to another, while the dome remains in the background as a stable presence.
